Why Your Semester GPA Matters

Immediate Performance Feedback

Your semester GPA is a direct reflection of your hard work and study habits over the past few months, providing a clear snapshot of your current academic success.

Dean's List and Honors

A high semester GPA is the primary requirement for making the Dean's List, a prestigious academic honor at the University of Florida.

Maintain Academic Standing

Keeping your semester GPA high helps ensure you remain in good academic standing, avoiding potential issues like academic probation.

Foundation for Cumulative GPA

Every strong semester GPA contributes positively to your overall cumulative GPA, which is crucial for graduation, scholarships, and future opportunities.

Semester GPA Questions

What GPA do I need for the Dean's List at UF?

To be eligible for the Dean's List in most UF colleges, a student must earn a semester GPA of 3.75 or higher while carrying at least 12 graded credit hours (S/U courses do not count).

What happens if my semester GPA is low?

A low semester GPA can negatively impact your cumulative GPA. If your cumulative GPA falls below 2.0, you may be placed on academic probation, which requires you to meet with an advisor and improve your grades in the following semester.

How does an "I" (Incomplete) grade affect my semester GPA?

An "I" grade does not initially factor into your GPA calculation. It acts as a placeholder. Once you complete the required coursework and a final letter grade is assigned, that grade will be retroactively included, and your GPA for that semester will be recalculated.
