Step 3: Calculate

Once all your information is entered, click the 'Calculate Cumulative GPA' button. The tool will instantly show you your projected new cumulative GPA and your GPA for the current semester.

Understanding the Result

The result is a projection of your overall academic standing after the successful completion of the current semester. Use this to track your progress towards your academic goals.

Why Tracking Your Cumulative GPA is Crucial

Meet Major Requirements

Many UF colleges and specific majors require a minimum cumulative GPA to declare, continue in, and graduate from the program.

Monitor Academic Progress

Your cumulative GPA is the single best indicator of your overall academic performance over time. Tracking it helps you see long-term trends.

Qualify for Graduation Honors

UF awards graduation honors (cum laude, magna cum laude, summa cum laude) based on specific cumulative GPA thresholds.

Strengthen Applications

A strong cumulative GPA is essential for applications to graduate school, professional programs, scholarships, and competitive jobs.

Cumulative GPA Questions

How does UF handle transfer credits in the cumulative GPA?

Your UF cumulative GPA only includes grades earned in courses taken at the University of Florida. Grades from transfer credits (from other universities or AP/IB exams) are not factored into your UF GPA, though the credits may count toward your degree.

What is the difference between semester and cumulative GPA?

Your semester GPA is calculated using only the grades from a single term. Your cumulative GPA is a weighted average of the grades from all courses you have ever taken at UF, across all semesters.

How does the Grade Forgiveness policy work with my cumulative GPA?

When you use grade forgiveness for a repeated course, only the grade from the second attempt is used to calculate your cumulative GPA. The original grade is excluded from the calculation, which can provide a significant boost to your overall GPA. Both attempts will still appear on your transcript.
