CSU GPA Calculator
A specialized tool for students across the 23 California State University campuses. Calculate your semester and cumulative GPA using the specific CSU grading scale.
The CSU Grading Scale
Most California State University campuses (like SDSU, SJSU, CSUN, CSULB, etc.) utilize a 4.0 grading scale that includes plus and minus grades. Unlike some universities that use 3.67 for an A-, the CSU system typically assigns 3.7.
| Grade | Grade Points | Description |
|---|---|---|
| A | 4.0 | Superior |
| A- | 3.7 | |
| B+ | 3.3 | |
| B | 3.0 | Good |
| B- | 2.7 | |
| C+ | 2.3 | |
| C | 2.0 | Satisfactory |
| C- | 1.7 | |
| D+ | 1.3 | |
| D | 1.0 | Passing, less than satisfactory |
| D- | 0.7 | |
| F | 0.0 | Failing |
| WU | 0.0 | Withdrawal Unauthorized |
Note: "WU" (Withdrawal Unauthorized) counts as 0.0 grade points, effectively an F. "I" (Incomplete), "W" (Withdrawal), and "CR/NC" (Credit/No Credit) grades are generally not calculated into your GPA.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is an A+ worth 4.3?
Generally, no. Most CSU campuses do not award extra points for an A+. An A+ typically carries the same 4.0 weight as an A.
How does "Grade Forgiveness" work at CSU?
Under Executive Order 1037, undergraduate students may repeat courses and have the lower grade excluded from their GPA calculation (up to 16 units). A separate limit (usually 12 units) exists for grade averaging. Check your specific campus registrar for details.
What GPA is needed for "Good Standing"?
You generally need a 2.0 (C average) for both your cumulative GPA and your campus GPA to remain in good academic standing. Falling below this may result in academic probation.
